What is Poverty

When meeting with the families in Mathew Henson I noticed that many people were happy with the situation they were in. I do not mean that they strive to be in public housing, but the fact that now live in a better place regardless of the location. I admire the fact that they don't care about what other people think. They don't ask to have a BMW in the driveway. They don't thrive to have fancy shoes or handbags. They are proud that they made the right decision to live in a nice community after living in what they described as "Viet Nam".
Is it a crime for families to settle in public housing without striving for a place of their own or should they consider the place they live "their own"?
